Regional and Local Climate Modeling and Analysis Research Group

What are the consequences of global climate change for Styria and other regions of the world? What are the impacts of climate change on our local environment?These are the basic questions that motivate the work of the ReLoClim Research Group. Regional climate models are applied and refined at very high resolution and provide the basis for interdisciplinary investigations of the regional impacts of climate change. Pursuing these topics, our research includes for instance studies about how climate change will affect drought- and hail damage risks in agriculture, extreme precipitation and flooding, and heating and cooling energy demand.The research area includes regional and local scale climate modelling, analysis of regional and local scale climate processes, as well as interfaces to climate change impact research. At regional scales, the focus lies on the European Alpine region, at local scales primarily regions in Austria, particularly in Styria, are investigated. In addition, the developed methods are also adapted and applied to other regions of the world.
